At long last I'm here with an interiors post.
In a house that I realise if you don't follow me on anything other than here, which I guess is highly unlikely, but if that was the case, then you would have no idea that I'd moved. But yes, back in June 2024 we moved house and have slowly been working to make it ours since. There wasn't an awful lot to do, just a lot of painting, pine removing and eventually a kitchen reno and a couple of bathrooms to do (one having just been done yay!)
But our first instalment of the renovation diaries is our bedroom. A lil calming oasis for George and I, which was quite literally the brief for this one.
I wanted it to be a real chill out zone and something which for us, was rather simple. Our previous bedroom featured four walls of intense printed wallpaper and whilst I absolutely loved it most of the time, it did sometimes drive me a bit potty and worked to overstimulate me. Lesson learnt!
So here we have our calming, grown up bedroom, a room perfect for parents of two small children to completely relax in.
For paint, we opted for Lick's Taupe 03, a truly GORGEOUS neutral shade with pinkish undertones that felt calm but also really feminine. It's one of those colours that looks completely different depending on the light which I really enjoy. I love the colour when it's cloudy outside and therefore giving off slightly greyer tones and then when the sun is pouring in, it showcases it's pinker side. However, I've seen it in a friends home, and it looks more on the butter yellow side, again absolutely gorgeous, but a testament for testing in your home before committing, as it really does vary. We went for a classic white ceiling and woodwork combination, partly as we had the entire house gutted of pine woodwork before we did anything else, but the more I live with it, the more I think I am quite tempted to colour drench the space, what do you guys think?
The entire house was carpeted when we moved in, literally from the front door, right the way through each and every room, including the bathroom and kitchen...
So a rather large job of ours was selecting the flooring for the space. In steps Amtico: a British brand with over 6 decades of experience in luxury vinyl flooring. So after ordering what felt like hundreds of samples, we opted for the beautiful Hanningfield Oak, in your classic straight plank design, however most finishes do come with an option for basket weave, parquet and broad weave which are all so stunning! The Hanningfield Oak is really in keeping with our home, adding great warmth and opening up the space tenfold. The finish of each tile is truly impeccable, with the attention to detail to the wood design being so realistic, something Amtico pride themselves on.
We went for Hanningfield Oak throughout the bedrooms and it gives the most beautiful feel to each and every space, which you'll see more of as we renovate each room.
Other highlights of our bedroom of course include the reupholstered head board... My absolute pride and joy.
This bed, has seen us through 3 houses and 2 newborn phases of life and I am really, truly attached to it. It's nothing overly special, simply a charcoal coloured velvet bed by made.com many years ago, yet it is such a great bed for tackling those newborn days.
It might sound a bit strange, however, the bed is somewhat winged, meaning it almost cuddles into you when you're sat against the headboard, something you do a lot of during those first few months of having a baby. I found this allowed me to sit up and stay up and for that I grew rather attached to it. So rather than replacing it entirely, I thought I'd give the old dog, a new lease of life by injecting a spot of print into it in the form of this beautiful fabric by Sister by Studio Ashby.
I absolutely adore this print, I've always been drawn to star print and this just feels very me, but me right now. It's neutral without being boring, which means it can take a variety of colours, should we ever decorate. I am totally in love.
And lastly, the lighting in this room. Lantern lighting is really having a moment and it's not something I thought I'd be able to pull off in this home due to the lower ceilings and overall character of the space. However, I feel when combined with everything else, it really, really works and I just love it!
