Hello HELLO! I thought it was about damn time that I did a lil post dedicated to my most favourite of styling pieces right now, the humble waistcoat! It's no secret that I am a teeny, weeny bit obsessed with wearing waistcoats right now and that is for a number of reasons.
First, they act as a lovely, light layer and have served me well throughout the summer months of 2022. Whilst providing a great layering piece over light jumpers and underneath coats for the colder months too. Basically, a fab way to layer.
Second, they add interest to a look. I often find that a waistcoat is the missing piece to an outfit puzzle. It's a really nice way of adding something to a really simple look in order to give it a lil bit of spice. Take a simple jeans and tee look for example, throw on a vintage leather waistcoat and the look is instantly amplified into something much more interesting and seemingly more thought through.
Third, they add a lil bit of armour on days I'm feeling a wee bit self conscious. Particularly on bloated days or days when I want to wear something a little more figure flattering but don't feel quite as confident to do so without my trusty waistcoat to act as a barrier between myself and the world. Silly, yes, but that is an honest reason as to why I'm so into waistcoats.

I thought I'd share a number of ways in which I've styled a waistcoat or two over the last year. Venturing from a simple jeans and tee combo, to wearing the waistcoat alone, over dresses or with more tailored trousers for a slightly more put together look. They're a current staple in my wardrobe and I urge you all to give it a whirl.
I've left a lil selection of fab options to shop at the end of this post, however, I would certainly suggest shopping second hand as that's where I found my absolute angel waistcoat, the leather beauty that hasn't left my side in the past year. Whether it's charity shops, vintage stores or online portals such as Vinted, Depop, eBay or Vestiaire Collective, certainly think second hand first as I reckon you'll find just what you're looking for.

Also a place to have a nosey is Zara, I always adore their tailoring and their selection of waistcoats is certainly no exception. The little navy piece I'm wearing throughout this post is from Zara and it's just the most perfect fit. Similarly with Topshop, the cropped denim piece and oversized cream linen piece are both Topshop and have been real workhorse pieces throughout the summer months.

Aside from the edit listed below, I really rate Yolke for the most dreamy of waistcoat and trouser combos. I am yet to purchase a piece from Yolke however, I have seen them on many-an-instagrammer that I admire and they look TRULY divine. I'm thinking I may have to make a purchase on the basis of research... I've linked them here and here if you fancy seeing for yourself.

And there we have my little love letter to the waistcoat, I hope you found this useful and you really enjoy styling up your waistcoat this season the way I have so far. If you'd like to see any other ways to wear/edits for certain pieces for AW22 then please do let me know and I'll set to work asap.
Lots of love
