Inspiration comes from all over the place and often when you least expect it. I love finding inspiration in the mundane, the things that other people may not even notice let alone be inspired by and following from my old video series where I discussed what was inspiring my style each season, I thought I’d revert that video idea into a blogpost instead.
I used to love creating these videos so I’m happy to have found a way to still discuss inspiration with you all. If anything springs to mind that is inspiring you and your style right now I would LOVE to hear about it so do leave it below in the comments so we can all be inspired by one another.
First off, let’s address this ever so eighties get up from yours truly today. Combining the 80s dad trainer with 80s power dressing in the form of an oversized and shoulder padded blazer cinched in by a statement waist belt… WHAT A COMBO! I’ve also unintentionally yet it looks intentional, given myself an eighties perm too and I am digging it! Which leads me on to the first thing that is providing inspiration by the bucket load lately and that is looking to other eras for inspiration. It is no secret that I am extremely inspired by the 1960s and the 1970s but I’m finding that looking to eras that had previously been overlooked by myself is really helping to inspire me and allowing me to create new looks that I have never done before. I LOVE finding retro themed Instagram accounts that focus solely on specific decades and having a scroll through every image to find something that leaves me wanting to delve into my wardrobe or get on to eBay to source the perfect vintage piece to create a similar look. And whilst I might not take a specific reference as gospel, there is often a styling touch or two, something that I’m able to take away and to make work with my own personal style.
Head to Google, Pinterest, books or Instagram and start looking into decades and “It Girls” and guys of that moment and I can promise you will leave feeling so totally inspired to get stuck into your wardrobe to create something brand new for you.
Allowing yourself to be inspired by all kinds of eras rather than pigeon holing yourself into just one or two similar decades can work wonders for providing all new ways of styling.

Speaking of giving myself an eighties perm I’ve been finding that experimenting with my look has worked wonders for giving me an all new lease of inspiration. Whether it has been through the styling of my hair or using fun colours with my make up I’ve found myself feeling more inspired than ever before. This fashion month I’ve paid particular attention to beauty looks as well as the fashion on the runways to find new colour combinations to work into my every day make up looks and to try out new hairstyles too. I can be wearing the most simple of outfits but have really fun and colourful make up and still feel like the best version of me. Colourful eye make up is my jam right now so do let me know if you’d like me to do a blog post focused on colourful eye make up looks sometime soon, I have a feeling we’re all going to be rocking this kind of make up look come spring.

Since just before Christmas I began watching Gilmore Girls for the first time and from the very first episode I was completely hooked… WHAT A SHOW! I can’t believe it took me so long to get around to watching it but I would possibly go as far as saying it is my favourite television programme of all time! Shortly followed by Sex And The City.
Seriously, if you’re late to the party like me then please get on it asap! It’s such an easy, feel good programme with witty dialogue, characters you completely fall in love with, awesome noughties fashion and with some really important issues at the heart of it that many of us can relate to, I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!
But anyway, one of the main reasons I found Gilmore Girls so inspiring was due to one character in particular and that was Lorelai Gilmore… WHAT A WOMAN! Her character is completely inspiring as she is a strong, independent and absolutely HILARIOUS single mother with the most incredible sense of humour! I found myself belly laughing at many of her one liners throughout the seven seasons of Gilmore Girls and she really did inspire me to let my inner weirdo shine on through!
She also had some truly incredible outfits throughout the seasons of Gilmore Girls, some that left me Googling that specific episode or pausing whilst I took a photo of the screen as a “note-to-self” to recreate a similar look using the things I have. I LOVE finding inspiration in this way, it’s similar to how I found inspiration in each and every episode of Sex And The City and most episodes of Desperate Housewives too, another example of looking to other decades that I’d previously overlooked to find something fresh and new, for me at least.

Something I’ve mentioned throughout this post in almost every single point is how I’ve been really inspired by shopping my own wardrobe lately. I know I’ve talked about it a lot but honestly it’s been so refreshing to steer clear from online retailers when I have an event coming up or I’m planning some blog shoots or I’m unsure of what to wear and instead delving into my current wardrobe to style up something new. It really is so inspiring to take a little time to style yourself some brand new outfits without leaving your house or spending a penny, definitely give it a try.
Celebrity wise and Instagram stalking wise I am still incredibly obsessed with Lucy Boynton, my goodness what a woman! Every single look whether it’s her ever so relaxed and casual outfits for strutting through New York arm in arm with dreamboat Rami Malek or her red carpet sixties starlet inspired looks, that woman can do NO WRONG in my eyes and she is forever awe inspiring to me and my "saved" folder on Instagram...

And so, there we have a couple of the things that are working to keep me super inspired right now, at a time when I’m SO terribly over winter and the same ole jeans and jumper combination that i've been rocking since winter began! I’m looking to all of the above inspirations to keep me feeling inspired and feeling like me in my styling and I truly hope I’ve been able to in-turn inspire you until the new season comes around.

I would love a post on colourful eye makeup as that’s something really inspiring my outfits lately too! I tried a lime green eyeshadow in my last blog post 🙂
I also really enjoy taking inspiration from TV shows and films, such as Anne Hathaway’s character in Modern Love and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel — I want everything from their wardrobes haha. I actually really liked Harley Quinn’s outfits in Birds of Prey too! x
Ahhh great news re the make up post, I’ll be sure to conjure something up asap! Thanks gorgey!
It’s so fab when television and movie costume can inspire your day to day outfits, I LOVE feeling inspired whilst watching something x
Lovely post as always Megan! I’d def love to see a colourful eye post as I’m terrible at eyeshadow but trying to improve!
Thank you Georgie 🙂 and brill news re the eye make up post, I’ll get cracking on something asap x
Lately I’ve been feeling inspired by Debbie Harry and grunge mixed with feminine touches. I also LOVE Gilmore Girls. There’s one episode where Lorelai is helping Luke paint the diner and she’s just wearing T-shirt over a long sleeve top and a bandana but I thought it was so cute. She looks great even when she’s dressed down.
Lorelai’s styling is always SO SO effortless and so totally noughties that it’s just fab! I honestly got so much style inspiration whilst watching that show and from an era I thought I was totally done with, AWESOME! x
Are you taking a break from YouTube?
I’ve stopped doing it entirely x
