Another glorious week of sunshine is upon us and I'm both excited and insanely stressed all at the same time. This week is a big one for me both work wise and personally and whilst it's all super, duper exciting, it's all bloody terrifying also.
Hopefully by Thursday this week I'll be able to divulge you a little with exactly what it is that is going on!
But first, today I thought it would be a bit of fun to talk about those things that make you stop, take heed and realise that you're in fact old. It happens only every so often but makes you take a step back and think "yep, I'm old now" And whilst I know 27 isn't exactly old, old. It's the oldest I've ever been (duh) and with that has come a whole new feeling of chill, of knowing myself and a whole new sense of maturity, and so here we go; You know you're getting old when...

You actually like waking up early on a weekend
I remember being younger and being genuinely fuming if I woke up before 11am. Now it’s quite the opposite where I’m a little bit gutted that I’ve “wasted the day” by sleeping in. Unless of course it was like the weekend just gone and I had absolutely no plans and laid in until 1030, now that was quite a treat.
But for the most part I love waking up sans alarm clock around 830 on the weekend and embracing having a full day off to do with what I wish.

You get excited by a new scent/flavour cleaning product
I don’t know whether this is an age thing or a Mrs Hinch thing but I really do get rather excited when a new cleaning product comes into my life. My faves are Method, particularly the pink grapefruit scent (honestly, try it!) But when a new range or even better, a new fragrance is launched I must admit I get a lil bit giddy to try it out… What a rush!
You have a 26-30 rail card
Yep, it’s been a year since I was no longer in the 25-30 railcard club and just last month ordered my first 26-30 card having just turned 27. It’s a bit of a blow but I must say I’m bloody chuffed that a 26-30 rail card is actually an option now, hurrah!

You’ve come to terms with your body/flaws
This is a beautiful thing.
It really upsets me when I see photos of myself at 18 looking admittedly BANGING but knowing that when I was at that age I was SOOOOOO self conscious about the way I looked. It’s so sad that we don’t appreciate what we have when we have it only to look back years later and think “damn I looked good” it’s this realisation that comes with getting a little bit older that has allowed me to come to terms with the way I look, flaws and all and to be thankful for the way my body looks today. It might not be perfect and it may be a little softer than it was last year but its me and I know that in 5 years time I’ll be looking back at 27 year old me and thinking “I looked great” so I’m learning to appreciate me now and stop wishing for more.

Your thoughts change.
PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who now, when watching something on TV or online my thoughts have completely changed. Rather than just enjoying seeing my fave Sex and The City gals on a beach in LA, I'm now thinking "I hope they're wearing sunblock" or when watching Desperate Housewives I'm not ogling at Jesse Metcalfe doing the gardening, instead I'm wondering "how much do you think the mortgage would be on that house"... Yep, if thats not old I don't know what is.

You get JOMO rather than FOMO
I’ve always been one to suffer with FOMO (the fear of missing out) particularly when it involves my pals, but over the past year or two I’ve actually revelled in JOMO (the joy of missing out) This is one that deffo comes with getting older and enjoying the simple things in life. Being at home, lighting some candles, getting a Chinese and snuggling the dogs whilst watching a film with a glass of wine, that is pure sheer JOMO for me and there is nowhere else I’d rather be.

And so, there's just a few things that are making me feel hella old lately, I'd love to hear yours too. I always find myself chuckling at myself whenever I have these thoughts and feelings so would LOVE to have a giggle with you in the comments about yours 🙂
Have a beautiful week and see you in a couple of days for some exciting news.
x M
Love this! I’m turning 25 this year, and even though I know this is still very young I can’t help but feel slightly panicked by it!
I’m definitely turning into a morning person as I grow older too, which is never something I thought would happen!!
I notice my age most when I reference a club from when I was at uni, or a film I loved during my childhood and my 22 year old friends have no idea what I’m talking about haha…
Ohhh to be 25 again, deffo one of the best years of my life, you’re gonna love it!
OMG yes you’re SO right hahaha! The amount of times I am wounded by younger people when they have no idea what I’m talking about… There’s nothing quite like that for making you feel past it haha. x
Oh god it was like you were inside my brain whilst I was reading that! JOMO is so real! Excited to find out the news on Thursday!

HAHA I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Hells yeah JOMO is the new FOMO and I’m SO okay with that x
I started to feel old when the new interns at the office applied for their internship and I saw their birthdate on their resumee: 22/4/2000 🙈🙈
OMG yes! When George was hiring for his new bar I could not get my head around their date’s of births! How has this happend so quickly!? haha x
I turned 28 yesterday and oh boy has it left me feeling QUITE OLD Hahaha!! I totally relate to all of these! The JOMO is REAL. One of the things I have embraced with getting older is the freedom of just not giving a crap about what people think or what the world tells me I should have achieved by now! It’s not a race and there’s no trophy for best in show! It’s just about enjoying where we are and the gorgeous outfits we put together along the way 😉
HELL YES! I couldn’t agree with you more on the whole embracing the freedom of not giving a crap about the views of others! I’m totally with you on this one and have felt a huge shift in the way I am since turning 21 and probably on the run up to it too. It’s really bloody liberating isn’t it! You’re SO right with the no trophy for best in show, we’re all on our own paths and we’ve gotta bloody enjoy it and of course look great whilst doing it hahah 😉
Lotsa love to you Brooke x
I am ”only” 22, but oh gosh do i already feel a difference confidence wise!! I am still struggling so much with my body and myself, but I am also so much more confident than before. I trust and know myself a lot more than I used to, and this is such a nice feeling! There is this knowing in the fact that my relationship with myself is growing, it is work and often with work we sometimes go backward, but progress is something beautiful to witness, and I am so glad to see it within myself but also regarding my pals! Nothing better than evolving, and having the people around you also evolve and grow. As always I love reading your words Megan, it really does feel like chatting to the sister I never had, and it makes me feel so bloody good. Thank you <3
Marine, the fact you said it feels like you’re chatting to the sister you never had has made me so emotional, wow thank you! I’m so so humbled to hear that you like what I do <3<3<3
With regards to loving yourself it's definitely a work in progress and one I think we work on throughout our life. Every year we get a little more confident, a little more comfortable and a little more wise to what is really worth it and I think it's a beautiful journey to be on <3
As a soon to be 35 year old (I know I don’t look at day over 25) this makes me feel really really old! I can totally relate to all of these! Don’t forget the joy of a super early bedtime and a good old ‘house & home’ magazine!
xx
Hell yes to an early bed time and a good interiors mag! I am SO with you x
Heehee this post made me giggle because its so true! I agree with all of these!
Totally agree on the JOMO! I thought I was the only one haha! I used to love having my weeks filled with plans but I must admit I do enjoy it more these days when my weekends are free to chill at home 🙂
