Hello hello, it’s my birthday! Wooo. Today I turn 27 years of age, an age that when I was younger seemed SO DAMN OLD! Yet a year that now I’ve hit it, isn’t that old at all. When I was younger I thought I’d have everything figured out. I thought I’d be married and with a hoard of kids… Neither of those just yet but I am super proud of what I’ve achieved in my 27 years on this earth. All I wanted for my birthday this year was to switch off from the world for one whole day. So with that, George and I are heading for a spa day, leaving our phones in the lockers and having a good ole relaxing pamper. I plan to drink prosecco, read a book, swim, sauna, steam and be pampered to within an inch of my life and I can’t freaking wait.
As I do every year I thought I’d do my birthday post with a view of giving a little more of me away, this year with 27 things you might not know about me.
In the past I’ve shared 24 things I’ve learnt, 25 happy memories and the pro’s & con’s of being a Cancerian so do check those out if you haven’t yet. But for now, let’s get on with 27 things you didn’t know about me.

1.I AM A CLEAN FREAK
Yep, I’m a clean freak, nothing bugs or demotivates me more than an unclean house. If the house aint clean, I aint happy or productive so out comes the Zoflora and the vacuum cleaner.
2. I HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF SMELL
I can smell things that other people can’t, it’s always been the case and it’s always been something I’ve hated. My sense of smell is really rather strong, so much so I often think how great it would be to not have a sense of smell at all… Until I remember that I wouldn’t be able to smell fresh coffee or bread and that’s no life I want to lead.
3. I HAVE AN IRRATIONAL FEAR OF SCRATCHING NAILS ON ANYTHING
Just the thought of it sends shivers down my spine
4. ASIDE FROM BEING BORN I’VE NEVER BEEN IN HOSPITAL (AND AS I’M WRITING THIS I AM TOUCHING ALL THE WOOD)

5. I’VE KNOWN WHAT I’VE WANTED TO CALL MY CHILDREN SINCE I WAS 9
I have them all written down in my notes and add to the list whenever I hear another name possibility
6. ON THAT I’VE WANTED CHILDREN SINCE FOREVER. I’VE BEEN BROODY SINCE I WAS 7
7. MY CRUSHES RN (ASIDE FROM GEORGE OFC) ARE RAMI MALEK & FRANK CARTER
8. MY DEATH ROW MEAL WOULD ALL BE SAVOURY
Salt & Pepper Prawns to start, specifically from the Chinese chippy near me
For my main I’d either go with Macaroni & Cheese with Jalapeños or George’s mum’s Spag Bol with parmesan cheese and olive bread & oil
And finishing off with a cheese board (must have applewood smoked cheese & an oozing brie) with all the trimmings including an array of chutneys and of course pickled onions

JACKET- c/o MISS SELFRIDGE, JEANS- c/o SWEDISH HASJEANS, SHOES- JEFFREY CAMPBELL, BAG- c/o NUNOO, SUNGLASSES- ALEXA CHUNG c/o SUNGLASSES HUT

9. I OFTEN ORDER A STARTER FOR MY DESERT. CALAMARI > CAKE
10. IT WASN’T ALL THAT EASY BRINGING UP PETER & NANCY
I’ve had a few messages from fellow dachshund mommas about how easy I’ve made it look and for that I’m sorry. Whilst for the most part it’s been super fun and a huge achievement bringing P&N up so far it certainly hasn’t been easy! Dachshund’s are tricky dogs to train and we’re certainly still going through it 20 months later.
11. I’M THE ONE TO POINT OUT SOMETHING YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED
My sister reminded me of this one and it made me laugh. I’m always the one to point out something about someone in a film or IRL; whether it’s a vein sticking out of someones forehead or the way someone says a certain word I’ll see it first, tell you about it and then you can never unsee it again 🙂
12. I LOVE HEIGHTS
When I was younger I was a huge adrenaline junkie, always wanting to go on the fastest rollercoaster, step onto the highest viewing platform or eat the hottest chilli. Nowadays I’m a little more concerned of death… However, I still absolutely LOVE being up high.
It’s top of my bucket list to fly in a helicopter some day or perhaps a hot air balloon… OR BOTH!

13. SINCE I TURNED 25 IVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY SKIN
Now this isn’t a secret BUT the reoccurring dream I’ve had since it all started is! I basically dream that I’m waking up, heading to the bathroom, look into the mirror only to see that I have huge boils all over my face. It means I wake up IRL in a panic, running to the bathroom mirror convinced that I have boils all over my face… Weird eh!?
14. I USED TO COLLECT 🐌
When I was around 6 I used to go around the garden collecting snails. Popping them into my little red basket that was lined with grass that I’d delicately picked for my pet snails. I never understood why mum never let me sleep with them…
15. I KNOW EVERY LINE OF MATILDA
And I’m damn proud of it!
16. I LIKE TO HAVE A REASON TO TREAT MYSELF
I’m a firm believer in treating yourself. But also a big believer in saving. So these two mindsets can often contradict one another. SO, I like to find a reason for treating myself. Whether it’s my birthday, it’s Christmas, I’ve confirmed the dream brand collaboration or we’ve sold out the first collection of Saturday By Megan Ellaby knits, if there’s something I’m proud of I like to celebrate by treating myself to something I’ve been lusting over.
Next on my list is a Chanel bag or a fancy watch… I just need to do something epic to justify those hefty price tags.

17. I DREAM OF OWNING MY OWN SHOP ONE DAY
Along side writing my blog, creating content for Instagram, designing and running Saturday By Megan Ellaby and hopefully someday being a mother, i’d also LOVE to have my own bricks and mortar shop. A little boutique of independent fashion brands but with a huge emphasis on homeware, trinkets, gifts and cards. I just love discovering independent shops such as this and scouring the shelves to find that perfect gift or card for someone or finding one off and interesting pieces to add to my home or wardrobe. I’d love to curate a space that was completely me, that people would visit, love and make it a destination in itself.
18. I CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR JOHN PRINE’S- IN SPITE OF OURSELVES
19. I AM DREADFUL AT ACCENTS
I’m really bad at ALL accents, without fail every accent I try and do comes out as some kind of Indian hybrid… HOWEVER, saying that I am really bloody good at cartoon style voices and it would be a DREAM come true if I could one day be the voice of a character.
20. I USED TO BE A VEGETARIAN
Back when I was 16-20 I was a vegetarian and I reckon I could totally go back and probably will do one day. I’m limiting the amount of meat I eat but I just couldn’t give up dairy or fish so perhaps pescatarian is the way for me.

21. MY FAVOURITE THING IN MY WARDROBE ARE A PAIR OF PYJAMA BOTTOMS
Yep, forget the fancy handbags or the designer shoes, my fave item in my wardrobe or should I say bedside drawer are a pair of red faded jogger style pyjama bottoms from Primark. They feature white polka dots and what were French Bulldogs and are the comfiest things in the world. They’ve certainly seen better days, they must be around 7 years old now (is that gross?!?) But I just can’t get rid of them.
22. I FAILED MY DRIVING TEST TWICE… HOPING TO CHANGE THAT THIS SUMMER
23. I’D LIKE TO HIT 200K FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM AND THEN STOP.
Seriously. Growing bigger online isn’t something I’m overly keen on. I truly adore what I do and I love my audience as it is. I’d like to hit the big 200k milestone and if Instagram could kindly put a block on it that would be ace… Growing bigger online actually scares me more than anything else.
24. MY FAVOURITE PART OF THE DAY IS THE MORNING
When the light is streaming through the blinds, I’ve just made myself a good coffee and I sit down on the sofa to drink it in my pjs whilst watching the news with my dogs. Simple things are always the best things.
25. I DYED MY HAIR BLONDE ONCE
Back when I was 17, I think I was having an identity crisis. I had a super short bob, was trying to grow out my fringe (big mistake) and I decided to go blonde and very quickly. It was awful and lasted about a week before I got myself a dark brown boxed dye and promised to never return to the blonde side of life again.

26. I TRULY BELIEVE THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE ARE STILL TO COME
Whilst I’ve had some amazing happy moments already in life, such as bringing the pups home, weekend’s in the sun with friends at festivals (my ultimate happy place) and days spent on holiday with family; the optimist in me is thinking the happiest days are still to come.
I have a funny feeling that 7th August 2019 will be THE happiest so far when I get to see Queen and Adam Lambert live at Madison Square Gardens in New York with George, I think that day is going to top them all!
27. I’M NO LONG SCARED OF AGEING
And finally, as I turn the ripe old age of 27 I think I’ve finally come to grips with the beautiful process of ageing. Age is just a number after all and as the years keep a coming and keep getting better, I’m not longer scared for the future. I’m excited to turn 30, to get married, have a family and take on life every day as and when it comes. It’s all really rather exciting isn’t it.

I hope you had an amazing birthday Megan! I really enjoyed reading this post – I often think its the random, funny little facts and details about a person that are the most interesting and allow you get to know someone! I relate to quite a few of these, particularly having the names for your future children picked out from a very young age, having a strong sense of smell, and being a morning person 🙂
I hope you have a really wonderful 27th year!
