Why hello there, it's been a while hasn't it!
I really do beat myself up when I miss my usual posting days here on the blog 'cause even now, after 6.5 years of writing in this little space, my blog is still my baby! My favourite form of escapism and my absolute favourite part of what I do. However, every now and again the creative juices stop flowing and I get a little touch of writers block, which is endlessly frustrating but is something I know comes part-and-parcel with this kind of work.
So rather than my usual internal beating that I am so used to giving myself, instead I just allowed myself to be uninspired. I let myself not know what to write about and instead focused on the things that I was finding the inspiration for such as my Instagram, my fashion line Saturday by Megan Ellaby and strangely enough my YouTube channel.
Why is it that when one thing is thriving, something else has to suffer? It's always the case with my blog and YouTube channel, they're never both excelling at once, it's always sadly one or the other.
But anyway, I'm sat here today on Monday morning after a gorgeous weekend with the family celebrating my uncles 50th birthday, with a cup of coffee and the pups, listening to a touch of classical music with the sun streaming through the blinds (hurray for spring) and I thought I might as well just chat, chat about what I've been up to, where I'm going and of course what I'm wearing too.
So yeah, thats where I've been hiding; hiding in the shadows desperately trying to find the words to write. Well that, and the fact I've been in Marrakech for the past week with Chloe(!!!) Yeah, I'm freaking out too!!! It was the most insane trip and I seriously can't believe that a brand I have adored for so long invited me along as their guest, just bonkers! I'm hoping to get the two rolls of film from the trip developed tomorrow so I will have a little rundown of the trip up on Thursday along with my weekly vlog coming up soon too.

But alas I am back and this time with a rather great transitional get up comprising of old items (that are sadly no longer available to purchase) with new pieces from my wardrobe, all of which I thought I'd chat you through today.
First up we have the unlikely style hero of the season, the bucket hat!
If you'd have told me two years ago that I'd be wearing a bucket hat as part of a fashion statement rather than for fun whilst drunk at a festival, I'd have laughed, loudly in your face. But for me, it's a welcome addition to my accessories collection having pined for something new to wear on my head ever since I said goodbye (for now at least) to my trusty baker boy cap. Having a fringe is great and I really, really love it, however, it can be troublesome whatever the weather may be! If it's too hot, it sticks to your forehead in a really yummy way and if it's too cold from the wind, then you might as well not have a fringe altogether, so hats come in very handy when you're blessed with a good ole, unruly fringe like mine.
The jacket might be something you remember seeing for the first time around 3 years ago now? It was back when Alexa Chung collaborated with Marks & Spencer, long before she had a brand of her own. I remember the elation I felt when I found this jacket in M&S on Oxford Street in London, I swiftly bagged it and it has since been a firm favourite within my jacket collection. It's so wonderful when a piece you've loved for a really long time gets an airing once again, it's such a good feeling to know you invested wisely, something I'm vowing to do a hell of a lot more of going forward.

But anyway enough about the outfit hey, lets get on with the catch up that I promised you.
I'm working on a blogpost currently that I'm having a little trouble with. Its a blogpost I've been adding to for the past few months and a blogpost I'm worried comes across as a little miserable. But I do think it's an important thing to talk about, it's just finding the guts to do it. I reckon I'll have it complete by next week so do stay tuned for that. It's basically about being self employed in your twenties and what it does to you mentally and physically. It's currently a little "content creator" specific so I'm going to work at making it apply to all sides of being self employed so if you have anything to add, anything you're interested in hearing about or simply something you'd like me to include please do let me know in the comments below or drop me an email/DM.
I must also say a huge thank you to those of you who have got in touch lately regarding my Instagram imagery. The response to my work in the past couple of weeks has really been amazing and honestly quite shocking as it's naturally found itself in a more editorial territory, something I've always, always wanted for my work.
In the past, more candid and snapshot style imagery has come up trumps but it's always been the editorial content of others that has inspired me endlessly, so it really is truly amazing to be able to create my own and to have it be so well received. Huge thank you to everyone who has got in touch about my Instagram content lately, it honestly means so damn much!
Next up I'm thrilled to finally be able to discuss an exciting new venture for George and family. After the success of their bar Jimmy's in Manchester they are opening their second Jimmy's site in Liverpool. It's such an exciting time for everyone and it's going to be one heck of a busy summer for us all but I can't wait to see what they do to such an exquisite building! (read more here)
Another bombshell for you all is that we may be moving house... again.
An exciting yet terrifying prospect, particularly as I adore our home so so much, but, if all goes to plan we could be moving this summertime, I'll of course be updating you when I have more news but thought seen as we were chatting so casually that now was a good time to mention it.
And finally, I'm learning to drive. Watch this space, and stay off the roads.
x M
Perfect timing for my lunch break reading! Loved this look and catch-up and very much intrigued to read your post on being self-employed in your twenties, I 100% agree it has mental and physical implications.
p.s. good luck with the driving 🙂
Ahhh Emily thanks so much for your lovely comment, really makes my day hearing from you all! Glad you liked the post and the outfit 🙂 And I’m so glad you’re looking forward to the self-employed post, I hope I do it some justice. Thanks also for the good luck with my driving… I’m gonna need it x
Loved this post Megan! We’ve just moved from our first house as well, back to our home town because we missed our friends and we were just tired of having to start the car every damn time we wanted to hang out with people or go out for dinner. So we’re currently renting a small apartment in the city center and will be buying (hopefully within the next year) a new, permanent house somewhere here in the city as well. I’m surprised to hear you’re moving as well and can’t wait to hear more as I’m going through the same drill myself right now! Also very excited about the post you mention about being self-employed. As a fellow blogger/youtuber I think I already know how you feel and what you mean when you say how draining it can be sharing so much of your life online, and how it can affect you both good and bad. It always helps me when I connect with others in the same field, makes me feel less one and more capable of tackling things such as hateful comments or similar. Anyway I’m rambling, wishing you all the best! X Signe
Hey Signe, thanks so much for the gorgeous comment! I’m so chuffed for you to be moving, especially closer to friends and family. Exciting times ahead. I can’t believe we’re moving either bladdy hell, but it’s all very exciting regardless!
Really chuffed to hear you’re looking forward to the self employed blog post, it’s been a tricky one to write but I think it’s getting there and i hope I do it some justice and hope you enjoy it! Please let me know your thoughts once it’s live next week x
Oh my goodness I can’t believe you’re moving, I’ve loved following the work you’ve done in your beautiful home! Having said that, I do think you’ve hinted in a couple of previous blogs! I’m sure you’ll make your next home just as fab as this one! X
I can’t either! Bloody bonkers stuff! But it’s all very exciting, I’ll be sharing more asap 🙂 x
So much to catch up on! I’m really looking forward to reading your post about self-employment, so please do post it! I only currently work for myself part-time, but it’s something I would love to know more about as I wrestle with whether or not to dive in head first. Also a new home?! Can’t wait to hear about more updates!

SO much to catch up, it’s been so long! Hope y’all okay!
Brill, I’m glad you’re looking forward to the upcoming post on being self employed it m’lovely.
It’s deffo an amazing thing to do with so many perks but I think it’s important to balance the scale and share the downside too. I hope you enjoy x
Omg I have just recently last month started freelancing over full-time work in an office and it really is a very weird switch, something that I’m not sure I’m quite enjoying just yet. It would be great to read your thoughts on it in your self-employed blog post Megan. Perfect timing!!
Congrats to George on the second Jimmys, although I am well jel that the Liverpool Jimmys gets a little restaurant and the Manc one doesn’t 😉
I’m actually really gutted you might be moving house, since I adore your home and watching you and George build it up over the past year and a bit. But I’m sure it’s to an even better home. Can’t wait to hear more!
Ahh no way! What great timing, I hope you will enjoy it eventually babe as there are so many perks to working for yourself but yes I agree it’s a huge adjustment, particularly at first.
Thanks so much for the lovely words to George and the fam, thats so lovely of you and I know right, where’s our restaurant ahhaha! Luckily Liverpool isn’t too far away so hopefully we can still get involved with the good food.
I’m a bit gutted too tbh but I know this next move is going to be a biggie! Something we can’t miss out on, it’s all so exciting! x
So excited for yourself and George’s new adventures can’t wait to see what you do in your next house I always love your interiors. I can’t wait to read your self employed blog post just to know more about this new industry. A lot of young people myself included for a few years expect the life of a blogger to always be happy and great because only the good stuff gets posted so would be nice to see a post that really balances the scales and puts it into perspective. Also that bucket hat is the best but I do miss seeing you in a baker boy.
Hope you are well and have had a wonderful day.
All my love as always.
Xx
Thank you lovely Ava that truly means so much!
Yeah I guess you’re right, the highlights are all that gets shown/talked about and I think it’s so important to share all sides of the spectrum so I hope you enjoy it when it comes to fruition. Do let me know what you think of it if you manage to have a read.
Ahh i miss the baker boy hats too, so so much so it’s definitely not goodbye forever! Maybe it’ll make a comeback one day x
I literally sat staring at that first image for a solid 5 minutes, it’s such a nice shot! And I’m digging this more monochrome look, although I know you’ll be busting out the brights as the weather warms up!
Congrats to George and everyone at Jimmy’s, that’s so exciting! And even more exciting that you might be moving. I can’t wait to see how you’ll turn your new home into another colourful fun house!
Ohh Madelyn I’m so glad you like the photography, I’m so chuffed with how the shots turned out!
Thanks so much for the lovely words babe, it truly means a lot! x
Loved this catch up and I’m obsessed with the photos from this shoot! The lines of the building work perfectly with the striped trousers and long jacket. Also so great that you decided to let yourself feel uninspired and not beat yourself up. It’s so hard not to feel guilty for not meeting your own expectations sometimes, definitely something I’m struggling with myself.
Can’t wait to see the developed film photos from Marrakesh!xx
Ahhh thank you so much lovely Laura! I’m so chuffed with how the photos turned out! They’re awesome aren’t they, Rosie did a stellar job!
Thanks so much for the reassurance regarding taking some time to feel uninspired, it’s a very tricky thing to allow yourself to do but I have to say, I think it’s worked!
The photos are live today at 10am wooo! Hope you love x
That’s such great news for George and fam! Will you be moving to Liverpool to be nearer the new site? On the bright side I can’t wait to see new interior inspo 🙌
Looking forward to the blog post about freelancing, I’m graduating uni soon and will probably go into freelancing so will be really useful! X
Thanks babe and absolutely not, our heart is firmly in Manchester, I don’t think I could ever leave! But I have no doubt we’re going to be in Liverpool a hell of a lot more going forward!
x
