Hello you marvellous bunch and happy new week. I hope your week kicked off in the way it should, productive and positive. I’m living by both of those words currently in order to keep myself happy as often as possible, so much so I’m repeating those words under my breath whenever any doubt makes it' way into my mind… Oh life ey! But seriously try it.
I hope you all had a gorgeous weekend!? Mine was SO FREAKING CHILLED and I really bloody loved it, especially knowing that LFW was taking place at the exact same time. I'm a little over the whole fashion week debacle now so it felt good to give it a miss for another season, perhaps next season I'll feel up to it but for now I am enjoying staying away and keeping up-to-date from the comfort of my own home.
I stayed in on my own on Friday night in order to pamper myself to within an inch of my life, which was dreamy to say the least. Saturday started off slow, just the way I like it and was followed by a couple of pints and a pub lunch (cheese & onion pie for me) with George, my dad, Nanna Doris and Auntie Julie… DREAMY! We then had the family over for takeaway pizza and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY! It’s finally out on i-Tunes and after having it on pre-order for as long as I can remember it felt SO good to watch it from the comfort of my own home and to sing along as loudly as I wanted. Yep, I’m still very much obsessed with all things Queen!
Sunday was a day for cleaning, the big food shop and for a roast dinner cooked by the king of roast’s Mr George Craig… HEAVENLY! So all in all it was a good wholesome weekend but I can’t help but think that I’m ready for a night out this coming weekend. One weekend on, one weekend off, just how I like it! Let me know what you got up to this weekend in the comments, I love hearing from you.
Speaking of both Queen and George and whilst I'm waffling away to you all I thought I'd fill you in on a little Valentines surprise that I received from George last week. You might have seen over on Instagram that he only bloody surprised me with Queen tickets in NEW YORK(!) at Madison Square Gardens! It was such a shock to find the tickets hiding in a cocktail menu in Hawksmoor but my goodness am I excited! He is so freaking good at surprises I honestly don't know how I ever got so lucky. We're currently deciding on which hotel to stay at in NYC and for how long so if you have any suggestions then please do let us know.

Speaking of hearing from you, it was so interesting to see the type of styling posts that you lot engage with the most. And to be honest it's quite refreshing to see that it's those that are brightly coloured and oozing with interest. My last style post which featured a head to toe black look (see it here) which was extremely versatile, wearable and easy to recreate didn't come close to generating the amount of chat that my other looks have. It really was eye opening to learn this as I thought that something as simple and approachable as a post highlighting my essential basic items would have done wonders, but hey it's definitely good to know.
So you may be pleased to hear that today I'm back with a more colourful look that is once again inspired by all the grandads out there. As you may remember, I recently shared this look that featured a heck loada items that wouldn't look amiss on grandads around the world and I'm back with a v similar and v grandad-chic inspired look once more.
There's something about the textures, the colours and of course the prints that spring to mind when you think of Grandad styling that I'm just a bit of a sucker for. Usually as those things relate to being "retro" or "vintage" in style, which, as you know is something I always admire.
Whether it's Fairisle prints, knitwear, corduroy (in all it's forms), tank tops, exposed socks, glasses or tailoring I am HERE for it. Especially at this time of year 'cause man alive, it is cold outside and I am all about those layers.
Spring seems to be on the horizon and is teasing us with the odd sprinkling of blue skies and sunny spells but for the most part it’s pretty damn cold and this look is something I’ve been rocking on rotation now for the past couple of weeks.

Not only does this look feature heavily grandad-esque textures and features it also includes my favourite colour of the moment and a colour that is set to be huge for SS19 and that is GREEN! There’s something about green that makes me feel fabulous, whether it’s simply a touch of green with the shellac polish on my nails, a sweeping of green eye shadow on my lids or a full on go-green-or-go-home get up such as this, I just freaking love the colour and I am thrilled that the high street is awash with the shade this season.
Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment.

I thought that I’d also share with you two absolutely stellar sale finds that I’ve recently picked up this month as I’ve not done all too much shopping so far this year (a conscious decision might I add) but these two pieces were just too fabulous to resist and I swiftly added them to my basket whilst browsing online.
The first is this totally awesome Fairisle knit by Prada that was one almighty splurge but one I had been thinking about for many months previous and once it hit the sales I knew that it was time to trial it, atleast. As soon as it arrived I was in love!
I decided to opt for a larger size than usual to ensure ample styling opportunities and also to ensure that it would be a piece for life. It’s oversized fit means it’s perfect for layering up in ways such as this with a neon green slim-line knit from Primark and a teddy coat in a complimenting tan shade by i-Blues. But it’s also great for down days alone with a pair of jeans or for throwing on on chillier summer evenings with a pair of denim cut offs, I’m thinking festival styling at it’s finest.
You know I love some good quality knitwear so for me this was a no brainer, a vintage inspired piece that will grow with me, a piece I’ll be wearing when I’m a lot older and could even pass down to my children one day, thats how I like to justify any of the more expensive purchases in life.

The second A* sale purchase were these green kick flare trousers by Staud. Not only are they green, they're cut to perfection in my favourite kick flare shape and they’re also corduroy too… TICK, TICK, TICK!
Staud is a brand I truly admire, a brand that is oozing with colour, fun and personality and a brand that really inspires me. I have a number of pieces from Staud now and I can truly say that they are worth every single penny. A brand to look out for thats for sure, particularly in the sales the way I do 😉

And there we have another winter look, possibly one of the last of the season (I hope!?) but who knows, the Beast From The East hit us in early March last year so who the heck knows what may be on the horizon weather wise but I sure as heck cannot wait for spring to arrive, I have a feeling it’s going to be a gooden.
What do you think of this look? Are you going to try a touch of green this season? And what do you think of my cheeky sale splurges, I’d love to hear from you!
x M

Your weekend sounds dreamy, the more chilled and quieter weekends are my favourites 🙂
I am definitely here for the colour green, it is one of my favourite colours to style. I paired an emerald green skirt with the dreamy pink star Saturday jumper in my latest blog post, and felt amazing in it! x
OMG sounds divine! Will go and have a nosey now! what a combo! x
A huge yaaaasss queen to this outfit and colour combo! I definitely want to get more wear out of two green jumpers I own myself, which I tend to reach less for because I’m finding green quite tricky to style… But maybe I just need to think less about it being all matchy matchy all the time and just go for it.
So excited for all the spring outfit inspiration that we’re going to see from you!
Ahhh Marlena, thank you so much beautiful girl! Glad you like the look! I do think you’re right with saying that green is tricky to style, it’s one of those colours that isn’t worn much so there isn’t much inspiration out there but thankfully, as it’s huge this season it’s picking up big time!
x
My weekend was very similar, the most chilled couple of days I’ve had in ages, it was sublime and I feel so much more refreshed this week because of it.
Those green corduroy flares look incredible!! What an insanely beautiful colour.
(Also…I’m counting down the days until the Bohemian Rhapsody dvd comes out – 13 days to be precise!)

SO much more refreshed! It’s crazy what a bit and R&R can do for the rest of you week isn’t it!
Ahhh the most beautiful colour aren’t they! And they’re also cut to complete perfection too! Such a great fit!
OMG yaaaaaaas! how exciting!!!! x
That bag is to die for! Glad to hear you had a chilled weekend.
While I definitely loved your basics post (as it was similar to something I would wear) your ability to work with colour and create such interesting outfits is the reason you’re one of my favs! So keep doing what you love.

Thanks gorgeous gal! It really is a beauty of a bag and embarrassingly enough I forgot I had it :/ but now I’ve rediscovered it I’m wearing it SO much! Thanks so much for what you said about my style and my work, it truly, truly means a lot! x
Please write a blog on your favourite blogs to read. Both fashion and non fashion related. Forever fn of your style and if I could steal your home I would x
Ahhh thanks gorgeous girl! Thats a great idea, I’ll have a think and get cracking x
Hi Megan! What a beautiful outfit yet again. Green is my favorite color so there is no way I couldn’t fall in love with this look.
It was love at first sight when I saw your bag, what a true beauty! I have a thing for denim patchworks: there was a denim jacket from Vero Moda with the same pattern and colors as your bag, I’ve been looking for it for years. It’s the kind of piece you never forget and makes you wish you had bought it at the time haha
Also, it was fun to read your take on basics. It’s so unusal and rare to see you in an all black outfit 🙂
Great work as always, thanks for this post! (By the way, I loved the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen is such a great band: funny story, it was the first ever concert of my parents when they were teenagers, they saw them in a super tiny city of the South of France. Crazy how lucky they were haha) I just wondered what type of concert it is that George invited you to 🙂 Enjoy !!!
Hey Gorgeous! Thanks for your lovely comment and you know what, I think green might be my favourite colour too!
Ahhh I hate that feeling of missing out when you’ve found something you love! SO annoying!
So glad you enjoyed this post 🙂 And thank you for sharing such a gorgeous story about your parents, that is just so amazing! x
Smashed it like always!
Also, how amazing is Bohemian Rapsody? I watched it at the cinema when it first came out and have been listening to Queen on repeat ever since!
Oh Emma thanks beautiful! Means the world! Ahhh yes the best film ever ever everrrrrrr x
