I’ve got not one but two oh so nostalgic elements for you today.
I’ll give you a couple of seconds to have a think about what on earth they could be…
One, Two…
Okay, I’ll tell ya.
Who remembers boob tubes!? The must have top for all nineties babes, whether you were a fully fledged adult, a teenager or a child like me, we were ALL rocking those strapless pieces of fabric that came in all kinds of lengths (mine certainly tucked into my bootlegs which were accessorised with either flashing platform spice girl trainers OR pink glitter jellies, obviously) colours and fabrics, they were SUCH A THING!
Well, it would appear that they’re back and they’re back with a bloody big bang!
Boob tubes are everywhere once more and I’m just about getting on board with the whole thing; but let me tell you, it took me a while. I now know how my mum feels when she says “They were bad enough the first time around” usually when talking about what she was rocking back in the 80s. But that being said, as bad as I thought they were the first time around, I’m actually quite enjoying seeing the little nostalgic babies back on our high street.

The second slice of nostalgia is Shirring, yup, that little elastic ruching, is in fact called shirring and it’s back in a BIG ole way! I feel like everything I wore back in the nineties featured shirring in some way, shape or form and it would appear I have the shirring bug once again.
I wore a dress on Monday that featured the technique (see this post here) and here I am once again rocking a little shirred boob tube, a double whammy nineties number, not to mention this particular piece is rainbow coloured too, my 8 year old self would be besides herself!

And despite the constant worry of the boob tube slipping down or my armpit skin hanging over the top (I mean, is it really that big of a deal!?) it’s a piece that really does spark joy within me. It makes me feel young, fun and less like I’m fast approaching my 26th birthday… How on earth did that happen? I’ve worn it with a little blue denim A-line skirt before and I think it would be a great piece for the beach too, over a bikini and paired with blue denim shorts.
But for a summers day in the city I rocked it with my much loved oatmeal straight leg jeans from Weekday (again…) and my most treasured shoes in the form of my red Gucci loafers. They’ve certainly seen better days, but I still love them as much as the day I brought them home, SUCH A GREAT PURCHASE!
The bag is a newbie from Next and is fast becoming my go-to every day summer bag. It’s just so statement, it’s big enough for all my worldly goods and I’m really digging the combination of black and navy against the neutral shade.
And now a summer’s look wouldn’t be complete without some bad ass sunglasses would it? The ones in question feature a tortoise shell body, with a deep blue reflective lens and were a gorgeous gift from the team at Madewell, who are now stocked in Westfield White City in the UK hurrah!

And there we have it, a little nod to the nineties in an oh so now way. What do you think?

I wasn’t a fan of shirred tube tops before and I am still not, but this outfit looks absolutely incredible! I also love the play on words in the title! haha

Thanks babe, glad you like it m’loveeeeee.
Such a bummer that you can’t wear em though, what a bloody shame!
Perhaps try a less fitted strapless top to nail the trend rather than a boob tube? Something in a more floaty fabric? xx

Loving this look Megan! Boob tubes are a staple in my summer wardrobe as they’re so easy to pair with absolutely anything, adore the way this looks with your jeans. Weekday just have the best denim going, you’re inspiring me to pick up some more pairs but I really shouldn’t!x

Hi Megan,

They’re usually shellac/gel polishes and I never remember the bloody shades. But I’ll make a note to write them down next time, thanks hun x
