Oh my goodness! This is finally happening! I am sharing my first interiors blog post since moving into our new house back in November!
I'm really excited to be dabbling in a touch of interior styling here on meganellaby.com as interiors and styling the home has been a HUGE passion of mine for many, many years! And now that we are finally on the property ladder and we have our own house, it means I can really have some fun, experiment and explore my passion once and for all.
I've spent many years in rented accommodation whether that was at university, a short two year stint in London or more recently in our gorgeous warehouse flat in the centre of Manchester, and whilst I've dipped my toe with styling up a rented room or two, it really is nothing compared to having an entire house built of several rooms to really get down and cheeky with colour, prints, furniture, soft furnishings and accessories a plenty!
I thought I'd kick start my dabble with home inspo blogging with our bedroom. It was one of the first rooms we embarked on, yet it still isn't complete... BUT, I just couldn't hold my horses any longer and just had to take some snaps and share with you the progress so far.
You'll notice the gaps in the gallery wall behind our all new and V fancy Philips Television, but I'm yet to find the perfect pieces of art to finish this off completely, so do ignore that for now. Similarly to that of the cream carpet... Not ideal! We're hoping to invest in some parquet flooring in the not-so-distant future so stay tuned for that update very soon (I hope!)
But anyway, enough of what isn't yet complete and more on what is complete. I'm going to talk you through the corners of our bedroom, everything from the inspiration, the furniture, the styling, the technology and more in the hope it will inspire you with your own home in some way shape or form. I'm SO excited to be sharing this so I really hope you enjoy and if there is anything else interiors and homeware-wise that you would like to see then please don't hesitate to leave me a comment and I will GLADLY divulge you with a blogpost or two... Any excuse to take photographs of my house, I'm honestly obsessed and I ain't sorry about it one bit!

So lets start off with what inspired the decor of our bedroom shall we.
It was in fact this mahoosive bed!
This bed was a piece that George bought around 8 years ago whilst he was in his band and it's a rather fancy, shmancy antique. It's not something I would have ever gone for personally, but it's MASSIVE, extremely comfortable, is v luxe and is George ADORES it, so into our bedroom it went.
I have to say, due to this not exactly being to my taste, I did struggle with how to style and decorate around it. It has a somewhat french-armoire style to it which isn't really me and I felt a little overwhelmed by it to start with. However, once we'd decided on going ultra dark with the walls, it all began to fall into place.
So yes, we have a gorgeous, extremely luxurious bed, dressed with pale pink bed linen by Christy, one of our absolute favourite bed linen & towel brands; both beds in our home are currently dressed in Christy bed linen with both bathrooms filled with Christy towels, deffo check them out if you want some fab quality and beautiful pieces for your home. I really LOVE how the pale pink works against the duck egg blue of the headboard and the dark navy of the walls to add something a little softer and a little more relaxing to our bedroom. We've then styled the Christy Bed Linen with complimenting velvet cushions, again by Christy and the most DIVINE bed spread from Pad Lifestyle by Projekti Tyyny, I simply ADORE the geometric shapes, especially when combined with the print of our La Redoute Rug and how it adds another element of colour to our room with the mustard yellow strip.
Honestly, it's the most beautiful and luxurious bed situation I have ever had and I simply cannot wait to get into bed on an evening. Sometimes myself, George, Peter and Nancy get in super early, whilst it's still light outside to revel in how beautiful our bedroom is... And to of course watch something on our mahoosive Philips telly.

Our bedside tables are bloody gorgeous and by West Elm but I must say, are a complete and utter pain in my ass. Glass bedside tables are not the one! They look dusty approximately half a second after I have dusted them and they show up every single finger print, hand cream smear and glass ring... Not ideal! As much as I love how chic and minimal they are, how the brass compliments our bed and everything else in the room and how they don't have any drawers to become dumping grounds, I think I'm going to swap them very soon for something a little more practical and mess friendly.
However, on our bedside tables we have two BEAUTIFUL lamps by India Jane that we picked up in John Lewis whilst on the obligatory, "We've just moved into a new place so must go to a department store and buy EVERYTHING" shop... Do you know the one!?
They were one of the first things that we had for our room but it was love as soon as we saw them. With little worker bees scattered across them it was the perfect homage to my beloved home town and the city in which George had chosen to settle down in. However, I'm not sold on the lamp shades we picked up for them I have to say, they're again India Jane and after around 4 failed attempts at selecting the right size shade from various retailers, we admitted defeat and made do with the same brand's design, which I find to be a little bit dated... SO, if you know where to find some bloody lovely lamp shades then please do let me know, I am all ears, however I may be tempted to enlist the help of Lisa Lampshades who made the shade on our GORGEOUS floor lamp (pictured below), what do you think?

On my side of the bed, we have recently added a little wooden bookcase that we picked up whilst working with eBay. I knew I wanted something to add to my side of the bed and by the window as our room is pretty huge and it was looking a little too "hotel like", with its bare walls... Not a look I was going for. So, I picked up AND assembled all by myself might I add, this really lovely wood and metal bookcase that I feel really adds a little bit of a modern touch to our room, something I felt it was lacking. I really love the industrial vibe to the piece and how it can be delicately styled with a few bits and pieces or stacked to the brim with the books I've collected over the years, depending on how over flowing the downstairs bookcase becomes.
But for now, I've styled it quite simply with just a few decorative and fragrant pieces; but the beauty of a piece such as this is that it can be changed up as and when we see fit.
Above the shelf is a piece that is OH SO special to us as it is one of mine and George's special sayings. It is by Pinfold Creations and I love it SO much! A really simple linen banner with our very special phrase emblazoned across it. I think it really works to add some personality to the room and really make it feel like ours! They can personalise any phrase too which means it's the perfect piece to add some personality to any room or for a special gift to a loved one.

And now for what's on the bookcase itself.
First up we have this very sexy neon sign that states "Boudoir" from Hurn & Hurn which I am totally obsessed with! I definitely think that George's passion for neon's has rubbed off on me and I was absolutely itching to add one to our room. It gives off the most gorgeous yet rather sexy pink haze, perfect for early nights watching films in bed.
Next to that we have a Fornasetti Candle aka the most delicious smelling and STRONG candle in all the land, albeit a rather expensive one. George got me one for Christmas a year or two ago and I fell in love with them as the pots are SO perfect for storing things in once the candle is burnt out. This one, along with the Tom Dixon reed diffuser which smells like a very sexy man, were kind gifts from the Mr Porter team who have the most INSANE selection of lifestyle goodies, so deffo worth checking out!
We then have a really gorgeous gold flamingo frame, again from Hurn & Hurn, our trusty Marshall Speaker aka the most aesthetically pleasing speaker in the world, that is also of course, really bloody great sound wise! And next to that some Wallpaper City Guide books and a blue vase/jug from Maud's House.
There's another shelf to the bookcase but unfortunately I haven't managed to capture that in any of the photographs within this post which is frustrating, so visualise a plant, a disco ball and a trinket dish with a worker bee on it...

Opposite our bed we have a really gorgeous set up, something I am really rather proud of I must say!
Starting with the bloody gorgeous pink velvet tub chair from Made.com (my fave furniture website FYI) it was a piece that funnily enough George fell in love with whilst in one of the River Island personal shopping hubs, so I of course took it upon myself to act fast and purchase it for us before he had chance to change his mind.
And I think it looks really bloody great indeed, especially now we have the Lisa Lampshades lamp behind it! Can you even believe that she made that!? It absolutely blows my mind that it's handmade and I'm definitely keen to add some more of her pieces throughout our home. Next to that we have a bloody HUGE french armoire antique mirror that we found on eBay a couple of months ago, it's around 8ft and one of the best things we've ever bought, I've never seen a mirror quite so big but it fills the space between the two windows incredibly, whilst also being GREAT for content purposes such as selfies for Instagram and sharing my OOTD in my vlogs.
Anyhoo, behind the lamp we have our gallery wall which I am lovingly agonising over as I want it to be the perfect mix of both George and I.
Currently, it's a little feminine I must admit but we'll get there with it I have no doubt!
But let me talk you through some of the pieces.
We have Dusty Springfield to the left, a woman I adore and who will always, always be my favourite singer! It was a gift from my parents at Christmas so unfortunately I don't know where it is from so moving swiftly on... We have a David Hockney print, an artist whom I'm sure you're all aware of but an artist I am really fond of. This piece "A Bigger Splash" is one of my faves and I picked up this framed print from Tate London. Underneath that we have a retro inspired print of a swimming pool that instantly makes me feel happy, with the colours and of course the water theme tying in with both the Hockney print and the rest of the room.
And finally (on this side of the television at least) we have a framed print from We Built This City which says "Love Is a Super Power" a gorgeous sentiment, in my fave retro typography, with stars on it and in the correct colours to work with our room, it was an absolute no brainer.

On the other side of the television we have our Lovebirds print that we had in the old flat from Oliver Bonas, a Blue Moon from Junique and yet another homage to Dusty herself with this epic screen print by It's Pop It's Art, I am suitably obsessed with it!
Our TV sits on this truly stunning Audrey chest of drawers from West Elm; I ADORE the texture of the drawers, the fact it's on legs and how the brass compliments the rest of the room.
And now onto both mine and George's baby, our Philips Ambilight TV that we have fallen head over heels in love with. First up it's seriously slim so despite it being pretty huge with it's 55inch 4K screen, it doesn't look out of place in our bedroom as it is so slick and funnily enough fitted absolutely perfectly on the West Elm unit. With Netflix, YouTube and many more apps built in, I'm ashamed to admit just how much time we spend in bed watching series after series, our current fave is Money Heist (OBSESSED), or film after film. A personal favourite of George's is the unparalleled sound quality, it blows him away every time we watch something, but for me, I'm obsessed with the backlights of the television which you can set as a certain colour (I tend to opt for blue or pink to match the room obvz) or that can follow the visual of the programme you're watching, which is unlike anything I've ever seen before.
I never, ever thought I'd be a TV in the bedroom kinda gal but I have to say I am completely obsessed and most definitely a convert thanks to this Philips baby.

And to finish off, the wall colour is "Stifkey Blue" by Farrow & Ball, a truly delicious shade of blue that is seriously cosy in the evenings with our lamps, neon signs and Ambilight television bringing ALL the atmosphere, but is also seriously fresh and revitalising in the day when seen with natural light.
So there we go, a little look into the corners of our bedroom I TRULY hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed putting it together! I'm SO excited to be sharing something different from the norm here on meganellaby.com and I hope that if you like it you'll let me know so I can ensure that they'll be another mini room tour very soon for you to take a peek of.
I'm also thinking of doing some guides such as, "a guide to choosing a wall colour", "a guide for house plants", "a guide for selecting antiques", "a guide for choosing artwork" so do let me know if they sound cool or if theres anything else you would like to read home-wise as I am ALL EARS!

OMG Megan this is beautiful. I’m so jealous you own your house as I’m still renting and it leaves me so limited as to what you can actually do! Keep posting with your interior design tips – you clearly have a talent for it! J X
Thanks Jess, SO glad you enjoyed! xo
Hi Megan
Wow this room is sooooo gorgeous I love everything about it and the fact that majority of your pieces have meaning behind them just adds to the amazingness (is that a word?? lol). Its really lovely that both you and George take so much to do with picking things together for your home and making sure its what you both love as I know sometimes us girls can take over when it comes to decorating and most guys are happy to let us lol! I am so glad you made this post to show it off although it has been fab to see little snippets in the vlogs and I would love a “guide to” for interior of any kind you have really knak for it!!!
Look forward to the next room 🙂
xxxx
Ohhh thanks so much Pammie, means a lot! Yeah, we’re both V involved with every aspect of our home, it’s nice to share the load as you end up with a real amalgamation of both of our styles and personalities!
Thanks gorgeous one x
So happy you’re doing posts on interiors! I quite like fashion, but I’m mad about interiors (and we are twinsies when it comes to decor) so I’m delighted my favourite fashion blogger (and all round Top Lass) is doing interiors. Your style is exquisite (which seems slightly self serving after saying we have the same taste ;-)), I love every piece, I love the stories behind them, and I love the thought that has gone into curating the room as a whole. I always think of my house as a little museum to my life (and The Boy’s, obvs!) and I love it when others present their space like this. I’m currently pregnant and having *such fun* planning the nursery! (I can’t wait to see yours at some point in the future!)
Ohhh Lucy thats great to hear, so happy you’re excited for more interior posts coming up!
Thank you so much for saying such lovely things about our bedroom!
OMG I cannot wait for the days I get to style up a nursery, such fun! xo
omg Megan this is incredible! I am in love with all of it! The lamp, the rug and the posters! And aaaaaaah absolutely bloody love the bed sheets! You are giving me some major inspiration!!
Ohhh Elise, thats so amazing to hear! Thrilled you’re loving it! xo
Omg this is right up my street, I love this! It’s so nice to see a style outside of the medical white that is everywhere! Mad dig your sense of style, so cool, so rock n roll. I love the bee lamp as well and that cute little flamingo frame. So sick!

I’m obsessed with your house, I absolutely love the dark painted walls with the mix of furniture. It’s so beautiful. I love the lamps, rug, the bed, posters, the neon lamp, I love it all.
YAY! SO glad you’re inspired by our interiors, thanks beautiful x
I love this room! It’s so colorful and unique, not just the plain old white with blush pink that you see so much nowadays.
HAHA YES ALLIE! I HEAR YA! X
Hey Megan Georgia Ellaby, my fave babe!
If anyone ever doubted you could transform a blank canvas into a home they’re going to have to eat their words now! There is truly so much beauty and personality here. I love that this room is such an amalgamation of yours and George’s personal styles coming together beautifully. The attention to detail is also on another level.
In terms of future interiors content I’d thought about the following:
-a very similar post to this one only for your living room, which is equally as WILD. <3
– the Megan Ellaby Guide to selecting artwork, drawing upon your favourite websites/stores to procure art from and how you know what would work best for any given room
-The Megan Ellaby Guide to selecting furniture and antiques as you suggested.
P.S. thanks so much for putting me on to Erica Davies. I've low-key pinned her entire house. xD #sorrynotsorry xox
Ohhh Sarah thank you so much, that is so bloody kind of you and has made the transition back to work after the bank holiday all the more easy! Thank you!
LOVE the suggestions for interiors posts, consider them done!
P.S SO glad you’re LOVING Erica, whaddababeeee x
Hi Megan!
Love how your style reflects on your home. It really looks like magazine or even book material. I’d never have thought that a bedroom would look so good in that dark blue and oh my goodness it does! Please do more home related posts. As a rather stay at home Cancerian I love to see how you make a beautiful and cozy home.
I’m really itching on getting those Wallpaper City Guide books but unfortunately, the shipping to Chile costs a fortune. Did you buy them online or in a specific store? So when I travel to England I can get them cause they will be first on the buy list.
Also I’ve been struggling with how to dress appropriately now that I’m starting to work. I still can’t do the transition from Uni student to professional and as I look like 15 still in my mid 20’s I need to look a bit more adult and trustworthy.
Keep doing you as we love it so much,
Excuse any writing mistakes as I am no expert in English but I’ve been wanting to comment on your posts for some time now.
Hey Josefina, thanks so much for your gorgeous comment, it means so much!
REALLY thrilled that you like our bedroom, the colour is honestly SO cosy, I cannot get enough of it! I am SUCH a stay at home Cancerian too haha, I know exactly what you mean!
I got the books online at Mr Porter but it’s looking like they’ve since sold out. Sorry about that babes.
Your English is spot on girlie so absolutely no need to apologise silly.
Lots of love to you and thanks for your lovely comment once more x
A big Yes to all suggestions and guides I love the color you choose it is so unique. Your contemporary ideas will help us a lot.

Ohhh thanks so much Pam that is so so lovely of you to say.
I take inspiration from all over the show but I do follow tonnes of home/interior accounts on Instagram x
Love it! Just used Stiffkey Blue downstairs and it’s such a great colour. Where’s that gorgeous brass circle pendant light from? Thanks! Hx
It’s such a beautiful colour isn’t it!
The light is from Oliver Bonas but is now sold out unfortunately. They have SUCH beautiful lighting though, deffo check em out http://bit.ly/2LBq4OW xx
Ah – gutted it’s sold out! It’s gorgeous. I have 2 House Doctor pendants which are similar…
