Hi, Hey, Howdy, HELLO!
It's been bloody ages, well 3.5 weeks to be precise, how the devil are you?
I'm just back from an incredible 10 days in the Maldives and I can't quite express to you just how fabulous it was. Hopefully you've been keeping up-to-date over on my Instagram but we got back just over a week ago and it was quite possibly the most relaxing and certainly the most needed break of both mine and George's lives. I didn't plan any content to go live whilst I was away as I wanted to completely switch off without the pressure of shouting about a new post or video, so, naturally once I returned home I had to get out shooting right away... Whilst my tan was still intact ofc.
And here we are, a brand new style post featuring what I reckon is the first spring-esque look of the season for meganellaby.com HURRAH! I thought we'd just have a little chin wag today and simply catch up as it's really been an awful long time since I put my fingers to keyboard and just waffled on to you lovely lot, and I must say I've missed it... A lot!
I've really been enjoying chatting with you all in the comments lately, it feels like we're pals catching up and I'm desperate to get that back again so do swing by the comments section and let me know whats new!
Speaking of whats new, how bloody fabulous is it that spring seems to have finally made an appearance here in the UK! I'm utterly shocked that it's taken so damn long BUT alas it seems it may have finally arrived with us! I'm loving the fact that baring my legs and my all new tan isn't quite as painful as I thought it would be and that I can finally inject some of the spring trend goodness into my day-to-day get ups. However, I'm not quite enjoying how dusty my house seems to be when the spring sunlight streams through my windows... I think a good spring clean is in order hey!

So yeah, the outfit, lets talk about that for a second hey!
It has got to be one of my faves in a while, but then again I always say that when a new season comes along. It's such a good feeling to be able to wear something different to what you've been wearing for the past 6 months isn't it! I'm SO done with knitwear, with coats and with layers. I'm SO done with hiding a perfectly fabulous outfit under a mountain of wool! I'm SO ready to let my outfits sing loud and sing proud and this little Topshop number was the first to do just that.
I'm SUCH a sucker for suiting, it's absolutely no secret whatsoever, but one thing I have never tried out before (I'm ashamed to say) is a skirt suit. I've always been one for a skirt too, so it's baffling to me that it's taken me so long to combine two of my most favourite pieces in one coordinating look.
This particular baby is a somewhat tweed/boucle hybrid with frayed sleeves, big chunky tortoise shell buttons and is cut to sheer perfection. It's a bit of a Mary Quant meets Queen Elizabeth duo and I'm really, really into it! The blazer is somewhat relaxed and a touch oversized (I got my usual size of an 8) so it hangs really beautifully on the body and sits perfectly on the hemline of the skirt. I'm also thinking that this baby would be the perfect Spring coverup to team with a pair of straight leg or even flared jeans to get ample styling opportunities out of it.
The skirt, in true Megan style is ever-so slightly A-line in shape and is the absolute perfect length for me and my 5ft4 legs.

Accessories wise I could not wait to bust out the new Anya Hindmarch Chubby Bag to share with you all, isn't it the most fabulously fun and unusual piece you've ever laid eyes on!? It was a really generous gift from the AH team and I've been really enjoying experimenting with it as it's such a fun piece. The colour is really rather sensational especially when combined with the coral heart pendant; the perfect accessory to compliment the striped rainbow tee, again by Topshop.
And, as for the boots, well I have to say, these babies take the prize for the most bad ass heeled ankle boots EVER! They feature a square toe, a super shiny patent leather, a high leg shaft and an insane inverted heel, I am honestly in LOVE! And, despite the heel height being pretty high, they're the comfiest heeled boots I've ever worn, mainly due to the really squishy leather! The sock-esque patent leather is super flattering on the leg and I feel that combined with the heel height and of course an all new tan, they work to make my legs look that little bit longer... RESULT!

SUNGLASSES, BLAZER, T-SHIRT, SKIRT, BOOTS- c/o TOPSHOP, BAG- c/o ANYA HINDMARCH, EYE RING- JULY CHILD

So thats the outfit all rounded up and tied with a bow, now I wanted to discuss the importance of taking a holiday and how much I really bloody needed it.
I'm a super positive and generally happy person but I didn't start 2018 in a very good place. I was down in the dumps, a little lost with what I was doing, not sure where I was heading and whether I wanted to head in that direction at all. I was uninspired, demotivated and felt like every day was groundhog day. I'd received a tiny bit of negativity online, my first since I began and I didn't deal with it all that well. Rather than being my usual sassy self and saying "fuck em" I lost myself to their lies, doubting myself and decided to just stop altogether.
All in all it's safe to say that I needed some time out. I needed to stop everything for a week or two and to really evaluate what I was doing, what I loved so much about it and get back to my positive mental attitude, something I knew was still in there somewhere.
I had plenty of thinking time whilst I was away and I can safely say I'm back to my "fuck em" mentality when it comes to online meanies and I'm feeling SO good about what I'm doing, what I'm creating, who I am and what I want to be.
I've always known how important it is to take some time out, and I've always championed you guys to do the same, but somewhere along the way, with both George and I simultaneously working on our businesses, we lost the down time and were in-turn a little burnt out. So, the moral of the story is, take some time away from EVERYTHING and everyone. Get lost in a good book or 5 (book reviews coming v soon), switch off and do something for the soul, you'll be back on top form in no time I promise.

So with my mini hiatus, I'm back and feeling much better about each and every little thing. My time in the Maldives was just the ticket to bring my sparkle back and now I need your help. I want to know what you like about my blog, my Instagram and my YouTube channel. I'd love to hear if theres anything you'd like to see more of or if there is anything you'd like me to give a whirl.
I LOVE writing so much, especially thought provoking, honest pieces, however I think I was putting too much pressure on myself to create something of that ilk every week. If it's alright by you, I'm going to take things back to basics and just chat with you guys as and when I fancy. Lets chat clothes, homeware, puppies, beauty, love, music and everything in between and lets do it for the love of it, not because we feel forced to. I'm bringing the fun factor back to my job, something I lost for a couple of months but something I'm SO excited to explore again.
Love you all lots, thanks for sticking with me for the past 5 years and thanks for letting me have some time out to just be me. I'm back and I'm ready for more!
x M

MEGAN I’M SO HAPPY YOU’RE BACK!! I’ve honestly missed logging on every Tuesday and Thursday to see new inspiring posts from you, but time off is so so important and I’m v glad you had such a special break. I think my favourite thing about your blog, instagram and youtube is that you are one of the only bloggers out there who is SO authentically YOU – you are a complete breath of fresh air in this fashion/lifestyle world and I think the reason so many people are so inspired by you is because you’re completely unique. You don’t follow the crowd – you do Megan, and it’s so much fun to watch and follow someone different. I don’t care what you post, write or photograph, as long as it’s Megan – I’m interested!

LOIS! Your comment nearly made me cry haha! I was feeling a little nervous to be back and your comment being the first on this post really did bring a tear to my eye, thank you1
Thanks for being so lovely and for reminding me of what makes me special, it’s so easy to loose sight of why you do what you do. Thank you (again haha)
Loads of love girlie!!!!!!!! xoxo
Glad to see you back on track! Miss your style but what I’ve missed more are your everyday vlogs, it’s been soo long since we’ve seen the puppies playing around and your weekend shenanigans including what you choose to wear daily :). Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for the future!
Ahh thanks Nina, my first vlog back will be coming up tonight, hurraaah so I really hope you enjoy it babe xo
Awesome outfit! Wish I could wear it in Canada 🙁 (temperatures are still below 0)! I can’t wait for my holidays either!
I know you don’t want to do a home tour, but maybe a post about your new interior pieces/ your thought process/ websites for interiors? I love how colourful is your house!
I was missing your videos/ blogs 🙂
Enrica
Thanks babe glad you like the look.
Oh wowser Canada is cooooold! I’d love to visit Canada one day!
Yes absolutely there will be some interior posts and videos coming up very very soon my lovely! Thank you for the ideas xx
WOOHOOOO Megan is back!!! I’ve missed the weekly dose of style inspiration on your blog and youtube so much! So glad that you’re back and happy to create the most awesome content again. It’s totally understandable that you’ve felt a little off at the beginning of the year, I’ve experienced a very similar situation a while ago when you’re just feeling a bit lost in everything you do.
I really liked your Maldives content on Instagram and watching your holiday outfits video was just the best thing when spending time outside in the sun for the first time in forever! I love myself a chunky cardigan but I’m so done with winter and ready to rock the French riviera summer style haha!
I think there’s no need to worry about your content, I’d prefer to hear your honest thoughts and opinions about whatever you feel like writing about instead of you feeling like you HAVE to post about a certain topic.
Looking forward to whatever you have in store for us this spring/summer!
Lots of love!! xx
Oh you flirt youuu 😉
I’m so glad you’re excited that I’m back, you’ll never know how much that truly means to me!
I’m also thrilled to hear that you enjoyed my Maldives content! It was some of my faves that we’ve ever ever ever created so it’s awesome that it didn’t go unnoticed.
OH YES I am all about that French Riviera summer vibe!
Thank you lovely, I will just do me and see what happens.
Loads of love to you too xo
Glad you’re back, Megan! Missed reading your blog, but I totally understand the importance of taking a break and just switching off. I’ve not been in a good place mentally in the last few weeks, and I know I need a break or time-out too. I’m happy you’re back and feeling motivated! What I like about your blog is that it’s personal but at the same time very colorful and inspiring! You chat about your life, but you also throw in a couple of tips about styling and fashion. I love watching your weekly vlogs. It’s just so cool to see what goes on behind the scenes of blogging! 🙂
Oh Izzy thank you so much! I’m so sorry to hear you’re not doing too well, but yes PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take some time out. You’ll be so surprised with how much better you’ll feel after even just a couple of days away from everything. Believe it or not I was itching to get back writing after 3 of my 10 day break…
Thank you darling, vlogs starting up again today hurraaaah! xo
I love your honesty & it is so refreshing to read – so thank you!
There’s so much unnecessary pressure on us to have things and do things by a certain age… I love your blog and content cause it radiates the whole “you do you” approach to everything which I LOVE!.
So you keep doing you! 😀 xxx
Thank you Eleanor, I’m so glad you appreciate that.
HELL YES I’m all about the you do you!
Right back atcha sister!
Loads of love xo
So glad you are feeling better and can’t wait to see all the content you are going to create with your newly charged and inspired self. I have totally been where you have been and you are right sometimes you just need to take that time for you and work out who you are, what you love and decided on the things that are really going to make you happy. You are such a style inspiration for me and when I was in my rutt your content really helped me to remind me of who I am and to remind everyone else that they can shove off. Thank you for everything you do trust me your time and effort is appreciated. Xx
Ohhh Ava, thank you so much babe, it means a lot! I’m so excited to be back and with my usual positivity that I’d lost for some time.
WOW it’s so awesome to hear that I inspired you when it came to your style and getting your up and out from your rutt. Thank you for sharing that with me, you have no idea how much that means to me x
So glad you’re feeling better in yourself 🙂 We’ve missed you! But despite that, the most important thing is taking care of yourself and your ‘real world’- your online world and followers will always be here but when you’re up to putting yourself out there.
I can’t say that I understand the pressure you’re under, from all of us and what you’ll probably put on yourself, but it must be difficult to essentially achieve a massive dream of yours and then not be too sure if you’re happy with it (whether all together or momentarily). But life is always changing and you have your following based on your passion and character, do what you love, whether that evolves and changes, and we will all be just as excited to see the snippets of the journey as you go along!
I could be chatting a load of gobbildy-goop but be we’ve all got to have each others back! ?
In terms of content, I really enjoyed your vlogs, Manchester recommendation and things like that. Also your collaborations with Yeti were amazing!
Oooo and interior reccomendations! Basically anything you feeling comfortable and excited to put out there ?
Lots of love x
Ohhh Lauren thank you so much honey, means a lot to hear you missed my bi-weekly musings, thank you!
And thanks so much for being so understanding with me taking some time off, I’ve learnt how important it is for my creativity and it is something I’ll be listening to a hell of a lot more from now on. Whenever I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, I’ll step away for a short time to clear my head.
Totally not gobbildy-goop (fantastic word!) I totally apprecicate everything youve said! Thank you!
AWESOME, I’ll be sure to hook up with Yeti again soon, get some Manchester content going (youtube or blog? Which would you prefer?) And hell yes to interior content, SO excited to get starting on that! xo
Hey Megan, welcome back from your jolly’s!!
I LOVE THIS GET UP!
I would love to see you do a haul of all the artwork you get for your house, you always have such groovy and eclectic pieces. It would be great to see you to talk through your process for what you look for and discuss your collection and also have some advice on where is good to buy from etc.
Other than that, keep doing what you’re doing cos i’m loving it!

It gives me major inspo! Please can we see more homeware features, and tell us where all your amazing artwork is from! I’m currently trying to revamp my own home but a little stuck and would LOVE some advise//ideas.

Like you said its always important to take time for yourself and I’m so glad you got to do that although I was extremely jealous of your amazing holiday pictures it looked like you both had a great time! These are my favourite kind of blog posts personal mixed with some fashion. I always love blog posts by any blogger all about life/love/puppies and places they love to visit etc it feels so real and just a bloody good read!!
So happy your back (now off to watch the new blog ??)
Jess x
Jess, I am so glad you enjoyed this post. Thanks for being so lovely and understanding with my little hiatus from the blogging world! It was honestly so dreamy and just what we both needed! I’m glad you’re all up for a bit of variety, variety is the spice of life dontcha know haha!
Thanks gorgeous girl, hope you enjoy the vlog x
Hi Megan!
I’m very much a silent viewer/reader and have never commented before!
I just wanted to say I really enjoy what you put out there – I’m so glad you’re feeling refreshed. I’m self employed and have been feeling the burn out myself lately and this post resonated with me!
I really enjoy your individuality and find it so refreshing! Keep doing you!!
Thanks for providing a lovely wee distraction during the week!
I would love to see more how-to-style videos with items already in your wardrobe – you give me lots of inspo!
Cheers! Xx
Hey Rebecca, thanks so much for saying hey, it really means a lot 🙂 It’s so nice to hear from readers who don’t normally comment, yay HIIIII!!!!
I’m so glad you enjoy what I put out there and I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling a little burnt out right now.
Take some time away for a couple of days or if you can a whole week, you’ll feel so much better after some sleep, reading a book, spending time both alone and with those you love and just being quiet for a bit! I promise!
Hope you get your sparkle back soon angel pie!
YES how-to-style videos coming right up! xo
I’m really glad you’re back! Even though i knew you were away, I kept coming back here out of habit to check for a new post. I only found your blog/youtube a couple of months ago and what really drew me to your content is how fun and colourful you are with your style. When you did a styling video for fashion week I really thought that the clothes made no sense as seperates but somehow when you put things together it works amazingly well which really baffles me! That’s when I thought that you really have an eye for this stuff and a rare talent. Keep ignoring the negativity and just be yourself because there are a lot of people who adore your style and personality 🙂
Ohhh Esh that is SO sweet! I’m so glad you like the routine of my posting, the scheduling etc thats ace! And i’m sorry for keeping you waiting for so long!
It’s so ace to hear that you’re a new reader/viewer and to hear what made you come back, that means a lot and is such valuable feedback for me, thank you so very much!
Ahhh a rare talent, thats bonkers but again means so much to me, thank you gorgeous xo
Dear Megan,
You’re smart, funny and genuine, not to mention incredibly stylish in a way that is entirely yours… What’s not to love about that? People in the above comments have worded this better than I ever could, but you’re unique in a manner that makes anything and everything you do a pleasure to read or watch. I love both insighful, lenghty posts on your blog, witty-captioned Insta moments, and girl-chat-style Youtube videos. So you do you and I’ll be there, enjoying it all 🙂
Have a great day!
Ohhh Madeleine, stop it I’m gonna cry, your comment is SO SO sweet and has really made my Thursday morning that little bit brighter, thank you! I’m so glad you’re down for a little bit of everything and I can just waffle on to my hearts content, thats ace! Thank you poppet xo
Oh, you’re so sweet… Also, I’m French, nobody ever called me “poppet”, which I find extremely cute, so thanks for that 😉
Yaaaaas Megan you look and sound GLOWING. You do your fabulous colourful self in your own time, I am here for it. There’s nothing better than seeing gals thrive and even though we’re in totally different fields…data science and fashion…doing it for yourself is the best feeling. So glad you took time away to refresh, absolutely nobody could begrudge you that! I come here to take five minutes away from my coding and read something like a nice letter from a friend when I need a break, I scroll through your instagram for inspiration and of course, lovely puppies, and I love your videos because you talk about quality, fabrics, cuts and feel rather than just place and price and you’re wonderfully honest – THANK YOU for the ‘Daisy St knitwear is naff’ as much as all the good stuff.
And if you ever want any data analysed…well you know where I am.
Oh Ellen, you utter babe, thank you so much for your comment! That is honestly so amazing to hear, bloody hell data science!!! WOWSER!
Thanks for being so understanding and I’m so glad you come here for a letter from a friend, that really is so lovely to hear!
Thanks babes, but srsly, that Daisy Street knitwear is CRAP ahaha! xo
Megan, I was a silent reader and fan up until now because you need to know how much I enjoy you and your content!
I love that you are fully yourself, not afraid to try different things and stand out of the crowd.
Keep on doing just that!
Lots of love from Austria xxx
Ohhhh Mariaaaaaa thank you so so so much! That honestly means the absolute world to me! Thanks so much for breaking you silence to leave me a comment, that honestly means so much xo
Hi Megan, so glad you had such a lovely time in the Maldives, it looked amazing! I love your series on YouTube that focused on recreating catwalk looks and your lookbooks. I can’t wait to see more content on the interior design of your house. Would love to see a blog post about your current favourite music as you have such great taste !
Never let them get to you Megan. There’s a difference between hate and true constructive criticism. If they don’t know you personally, don’t take it personally. Loved this blog and I’m glad you’re back!
