Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommas out there. I truly love this day of the year, the celebration of all the amazing women in our lives. Whether that’s mommas, step mommas, Nanna’s, grandmas or those who have looked after us like we were there’s. I love nothing more than paying a heck load of gratitude to my oh so wonderful mum, my hilarious Nanna’s and all the truly inspiring women in my life. This week there’s been a lot of lady love here on PBM and I thought I’d finish up with a post entirely dedicated to my special mum, Diane Louise Ellaby, you’re truly one in a million and we love you SO much more than you could ever imagine.
Mum, HI!
Firstly, thanks for everything! For being the most constant, reliable and oh so incredible figure in my life. Thanks for always being there through the ups and the downs and for always, always believing in me.
Thank you for introducing me to the amazing world of textiles, of fashion and of style. I always remember being in total awe of your dress making skills, watching you create the most beautiful of wedding dresses was always totally mind blowing to me. Similarly to the little dresses and skirts you would make Faye and I and the array of cushions and curtains that you’d make for around the house. Thanks also for allowing me to experiment with my style, for accepting our love for those god awful jungle pants that the band HearSay introduced us to, for not going mad when we would persuade Nanna to buy us pink and lilac leather jackets from the market and for putting your foot down when I just had to have the latest Schott Jacket that everyone was wearing at school… seriously thanks so much for not letting me have that one, seriously!
Our shared bedroom growing up was always the coolest out of our friends. Faye and I would always have the best boudoir in town and that’s thanks to you and your incredible taste, which I’m SO glad has passed on to us both. Changing it every few months has instilled my love for fixing up my home every season and that’s something I’ve definitely got from you and your love for homeware, cheers mum. Oh yeah, thanks for always letting us “play hairdressers” on you, you truly were the best model!
Thanks for taking me to Mr Blobby Land when I was a toddler. Sorry it was so lame.
Thanks for all the holidays and for allowing us to travel as often as possible, seeing the world with you and Pop are some of my happiest of memories. Keen for another family holiday if you are?
Thanks for not going too mad when we’d give up the latest after school club. Gymnastics, Flute, Recorder, Brownies, Football, Dancing and Netball, we tried em all, and I’m so grateful for that. Sorry we didn’t make any of them stick, until hockey that was. Thanks for the pink hockey stick and pink Astro-turf kicks, you knew that was all I needed to nail it! Style and sport, oh yes!
Thank you for always laughing at my cartoon voices, especially Bob and Clarice and “Where are the children’s books please” your cackle is infectious and fills me with SO much joy!
Thanks for the bike when I stopped sucking my thumb. Sorry I started sucking it as soon as I got the bike…
But thanks mostly for sticking by me through all those terrible times throughout high school. Thanks for ALWAYS fighting my corner and being on my side, but mostly thank you for being impartial, for always seeing both sides to the story and for not instantly favouring me as your daughter. This taught me a lot and is something that rings true with me even today. Thanks for letting me off the leash and letting me “play out“, even if you weren’t happy about it or the people I was with, and worried that it’d end in tears/ me going off the rails… I’d always come running back and your trust meant more than you can ever imagine, something I hope to instil when I have children of my own
You’re the most beautiful human being both inside and out; your kind, loving, caring and forgiving, your fiery and fiesty and I think I love that side about you the most, you’re forever surprising me with how hard you fight for what you think is right, you’re still teaching me things 24 years later and I will forever be grateful for that.
A few things I don’t thank you for… stealing billy blanket and washing him behind my back, he just wasn’t the same! Not telling me that those ex boyfriends weren’t quite as dashing as I thought them to be. And finally, I definitely do not thank you for passing on your god-awful hangovers to me, yeah seriously that’s a big one, no thanks for that.
Mum, you’re such an inspiration to me. The reason Faye and I are who we are today and my reason for always working and striving so hard. Thank you for ALWAYS putting us first, and for keeping our family together. Thanks for being my best friend and for being the hottest most sassiest momma around, I love you! Happy Mother’s Day and remember you ARE GOOGLE ?

To the sassiest Mama Cita in all the world, the only woman who can trip up over thin air,
Thank you for making me sit through Megan’s swimming lessons on a Saturday night, kinda boring but eating your tuna pasta mayo with cucumber and carrot stick sun rays afterwards was totally worth it.
Thank you for giving me super nice hair for school…and then leaving me with Dad’s terrible ponytail skills when you went away with work (actually, I retract that thank you… his ponytail skills were truly dreadful).
Thank you for making me whatever clothes I wanted, and teaching me about sewing & fashion & everything in between…I’d probably be unemployed if it wasn’t for your incredible talent & knowledge.
Thank you for not shouting at me when I spilt (a lot of) red hair dye on the cream carpet, and for just covering the stain with a rug instead.
Thank you for filming us singing along to S Club Juniors to enter a competition…and thanks for just laughing when I ruined Megan’s video (sorry Megan).
Thank you for making my teddy, Mr Brown, some tartan pyjamas. & thank you for digging him out again for me when I was sad last year, he really is ‘teddy bear bootiful’.
Thank you for putting my hair in curlers the night before Dad’s 40th, and thanks for putting my head in tights so I could sleep in them…not thanking you for taking a picture of me whilst I was asleep with said tights and rollers on my head though.
Thank you for being patient with me and my many hospital trips, whether that was for nose bleeds and my weird blood infections, or tripping up and banging my head so hard on the floor that it’s scarred me (side note – thanks for still telling Megan off when she slaps my scar).
Thank you for putting up with my Barney & Wizard Of Oz obsessions, and for letting me dance around the dining room table whenever I heard the opening notes to ‘We’re Off To See The Wizard’.
& finally, thank you for just being so truly wonderful. Having you, dad & Megs as my best friends and family is bloody marvellous and I am extremely lucky to have such a babe for a Mum…although, if one more person asks if you’re my twin then you’re getting binned!
