Oh the ever changing and extremely overwhelming world of skincare. A place, that daunted me for years, where I grabbed for my trusty face wipes and whichever moisturiser so happened to be on offer at whichever supermarket my mum and I were visiting that week.
I’ve always been pretty lucky when it comes to my skin, it’s quite dry yes, but other than that it was extremely well behaved, only taunting me at that wonderful time of the month (I jest) so I really couldn’t complain growing up.
That was until I hit 22. I had just moved to London, started a new job, was going through relationship problems and due to all of that, probably wasn’t eating all too well.
I lost weight, I cried a lot and my skin went into meltdown.
Having had well behaved skin all my life, seeing these agressive spots appear across my chin was heartbreaking, particularly when they decided to venture up my face, across my cheeks, and onto my forehead. By this point I was single and my self esteem was at an all time low.
As all this happened at once, I still now have no idea if it was one singular trigger or a combination but I tried EVERYTHING! Changing my diet, drinking tonnes of water, coming off the pill and strong steroid acne spot creams, but still, nothing worked.
Then one day, I was perusing YouTube when an ad featuring Gabby from Velvet Ghost popped up (THANK YOU GABBY). She was showcasing a whole host of Liz Earle products. A brand I’d tried and liked in the past, but gave up with and forgot about entirely, until that very day.
So with that, comes an all new skincare routine, one I’ve been sticking to for the past 8 months and one I whole heartedly swear was the reason my skin cleared up and has stayed positively radiant ever since.
The trio I whole heartedly swear by are the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, the Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator and the Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask.
First up we have the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, the Liz Earle product I’d previously used and disregarded through no other reason than laziness.
This cleanser is a beautifully light cleanser, with just one pump being enough for my entire face. Simply massage this throughout your entire make up filled face and let settle for a couple of seconds before warming the muslin cloth and polishing off the cleanser which takes all the make up and dead skin cells away with it, leaving beautifully clean and radiant skin.
I then splash some cold water across my face before moving onto my next step (below).
I use the Cleanse & Polish each and every day, morning and night, it is the perfect refresher in the morning and the ultimate “Ahhhh” moment in the evening when all that make up is taken off.
One to two times a week I’ll treat my skin to a good scrub.
My scrub of choice is the Liz Earle Gentle Face exfoliator. Again it’s a lovely light consistency with jojoba beads that work to gently buff away dead skin cells. Once I’ve worked this into my skin using circular motions I rinse with cold water and view the results. My skin always looks totally air brushed and completely buffed to perfection after I’ve used this exfoliator, and has become one of the highlights of my week, each and every week.
When I’m having a little pamper session which usually occurs once a week if I’m lucky, but admittedly most likely once every two weeks I’ll slap on the Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask.
This deep cleansing mask contains concentrated clay which helps to draw out impurities to leave my skin clean, balanced and super silky smooth.
I simply spread this mask throughout my face, then potter off to answer emails, write a blog post or just relax on my bed with a book until it starts to harden. From there I just wash it away using the super soft sponges that comes with the mask… Handy right?
As much as Liz Earle has transformed my skin and consequently my confidence, I also have to thank these little bottles of amazingness from Kiehls.
I’ve used and discussed the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate for a good few years now so when the Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate was released earlier this year, I jumped at the chance to give it a whirl.
These two little potions work to add moisture to my dry skin, waking my skin in the morning and reversing the effects of fatigue, stress, and ageing by night.
It’s my little bit of luxury each and every day and my skin just soaks them up.
So there we have it, the potions and lotions that have transformed my skin from the god awful blip it went through earlier this year.
I really hope you found this useful and I’d love to know all about your skincare must haves, especially in the moisturiser region… I’m still going for what’s on offer… Sorry bout it.

The Liz Earle range sounds so lovely, and my skin is having a real meltdown right now so I really am going to be looking into giving them a go!

This post couldn't have come at a better time as I am actually thinking of changing my skincare routine. I am keen to try these products especially the cleanse and polish. I also need to invest in a good moisturiser. I just use simple, very cheap and cheerful.

I've had two acne breakouts this year, it really broke my confidence but what really helped me was taking liver support (wrote about it on the blawwwg this week) as it helps eliminate excess hormones and support your body. In terms of moisturiser, I love Egyptian Magic or Clarins 🙂

I do love the sound of your new skincare routine but I hate the fact of how high the price range is! I definitely want to try these products out as so many bloggers and youtubers have recommended them and the effects sound amazing too!
