A few weekends ago now, I finally got the chance to head back up North and see my bloody wonderful family. And, having missed Fathers Day (oops BAD daughter) I treated my wonderful Pops and of course Momma too, to a spot of afternoon tea at the super famous Bettys Tea Room.
Having only ever popped into their take-away branch in York, I was super excited to actually sit down in the beautiful tea rooms in Harrogate, where people from all around the world queue up to visit.
We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes and guided to our table which was laced with the most beautiful white tablecloths and china, accompanied with silver cutlery: the perfect setting for a special occasion.
Having ordered our champagne first (obvz…Helloooo priorities) we were served our appetiser. We were here for the Lady Betty Afternoon tea which is a set menu and absolutely great for me, a self confessed panic orderer and consequently the host of some serious food envy, but not in this case.
So yaaa the appetiser, an absolutely delicious Prawn Cocktail with Avocado puree and Gem Lettuce, it was super fresh and seriously refreshing, the perfect way to start our afternoon tea.
Our super sweet, knowledgable and attentive waiter, Harvey, then brought us our Savoury Selection which consisted of the most scrummy Gala Pie and Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Dill Roulade; both equally as delicious and just as tasty as they sound.
And now, for the best bit, the tier of pure HEAVEN! Layers upon layers of sandwiches and cakes; Egg Mayonnaise, Coronation Chicken and Ham with Tomato Pate made up the sandwiches, whilst the cakes were next level excellent.
Chocolate & Raspberry squares, Strawberry Macaroons, Chocolate & Praline Slices, Mini Battenberg and many many more, each and every one of them as delicious as they were pretty.
But what I was really there for, was the scones, ohhhh the scones.
A classic Sultana Scone accompanied with THE MOST DELICIOUS SCONE IN ALL THE LAND, The Yorkshire Lavender Scone, yes, you heard it, a scone, delicately flavoured with lavender and then of course topped with clotted cream and raspberry jam, simply divine!!!!!
So it’s safe to say, we left feeling rather full and super relaxed after what was a wonderful experience at Bettys Harrogate, and I’m already thinking of excuses (pha, who needs excuses for cake) to return.
