There's absolutely no doubt that I'm a lover of colour.
In fact, I love colour so much, that for one of my best friends birthday's that was strictly a "black" dress code in homage to her favourite colour, I REALLY struggled to find a single black piece within my wardrobe. After a few hissy fits and girl strops, I eventually settled with a black pinafore dress with a leopard print shirt underneath and gingham shoes... I need to get my quirky fix somehow.
But sometimes, just sometimes all black ensembles, particularly monochromatic combos, come into my life that I can TOTALLY get on board with. For me it's all in the details.
You'll very rarely find me in all black from head-to-toe, unless there's a dresscode, I'm in my pyjamas or I'm travelling, but occassionally an item steps into my world that changes the game as I know it.
This came in the form of this sensational military style jacket by Monsoon. Monsoon kindly sent this across to me after I totally fell in love with it online, but I must say, it's totally better IRL.
The overall structure of the jacket is seriously flattering, creating the most hour-glass of silhouettes and nipping my petite frame in all the right places. It's snug across the shoulders without being either uncomfortable or unlike it's recognisable silhouette and the intricate detailing that makes up the overall design of the jacket is simply beautiful to say the least.
It's become a real hero piece in my wardrobe; something I throw on with jeans and a sloppy T-shirt when I want to look a little more put together for running errands or heading to meetings inbetween a day of working from home. But it also provides the most wonderful statement piece to team with other less subtle items such as this gingham frill skirt by Missguided to make something really rather interesting indeed.
It's a predominantly monochromatic look, however the beautiful gold thread and bead detailing adds a touch of colour that I crave, throw in a bold red lip and it's a win win sartorial situation to be had.
Something I love oh so much about the British High Street is how it's constantly surprising me.
A mini win for me is always when I discover a piece from a store I wouldn't usually shop in. Whether thats a pair of GAP jeans that have quickly become my favourites, a pair of suedette mules from Matalan that you all LOVED over on Instagram or a rather spectacular military jacket from the greats at Monsoon.
Not stores that I regularly head to, but when I find gems such as those, I'll be sure to return, thats for sure.
